Notes with Dynamics

The notes of the lower register can have the most effective and smooth dynamic transitions. The Paetzold flute can produce a very soft attack "dal niente". Initially the tuning is very low, and in the transition from ppp to mf the sound increases in pitch and reaches the regular tuning related to the key position. Increasing the dynamics raises the pitch by at least a quarter tone or a semitone, then at certain level it produces harmonics related to overblow. During the diminuendo the process is reversed, leading to a soft extinction.
